Optimizing your PC's performance

Computers are machines made up of numerous components such as hard drives, processors, memory chips, displays, keyboards, modems, sound cards, video cards, and much more. Each of these hardware devices is installed into a computer case at the factory or by a technician at the local computer store. But simply installing a series of components doesn't yet create a functional computer system. An operating system must also be installed as well as device drivers for each piece of hardware so that the operating system knows how to control the various components.

When you bring your new computer home and plug it in, it should work as expected. As your computer ages, you will be adding new software and devices. Meanwhile various device manufacturers will be discovering and fixing problems with their products and releasing driver updates as a result. In addition, they may be further improving their products with new features and other enhancements.

Why is it important to install device driver updates?

It's a good idea to actively seek out driver updates because not only will you prevent potential problems that have been addressed, you can also take advantage of the new enhancements made. Doing this periodically keeps your computer working even better than originally equipped from the factory.

If you are having problems with a device, driver updates often solve the problem. For example, your hardware could malfunction due to a corrupt driver. By replacing the damaged driver with a driver update, your device and operating system should be able to communicate with each other once again. Another instance where using driver updates works wonders is when your device is malfunctioning due to a conflict that has been identified and addressed by the device's manufacturer. The new driver updates will repair this problem and your device should be back to normal.

Where to locate your driver updates

You can get driver updates in several ways such as by going to each device manufacturer's Web site and downloading them, using Windows Updates, using Device Manager, or using a software program such as Driver Detective Professional.

With dozens of devices, visiting individual Web sites and downloading driver updates is time-consuming and tedious. Plus, you must adapt to the different systems each manufacture has in place. If you purchased a standard model computer from a manufacturer, your computer manufacturer may offer bundled driver updates for your specific model. This is quite a bit more convenient but isn't an option for custom computers.

Windows Updates provides Windows users with many popular driver updates for their computer's hardware devices though this isn't a guarantee that all of your hardware will be updated.

Device Manager is a built-in tool that allows you to update your device drivers one at a time. Using Device Manager isn't difficult but it is tedious and time consuming.

A hassle-free way to get the driver updates your PC needs

While there are many ways to obtain driver updates, each has its drawbacks. DriverCure is a hassle-free way to get the driver updates specifically designed for each hardware device on your computer regularly.
